Every picture tells a story, but one would never guess by looking at the vibrant woman pictured on this wine label that her past included a life-threatening battle with breast cancer. Yet she and every other woman featured on a bottle of Cleavage Creek Cellars wine represents a story of survival.
Indeed, at Cleavage Creek, breast cancer survivors are referred to as thrivers. They are the raison d'etre for Cleavage Creek Cellars, and a percentage of all wine sale proceeds are earmarked for cancer research.
Cleavage Creek Cellars owner Budge Brown is driven by two passions ... making exceptional wines, and fighting breast cancer, a disease he has recently dealt with in a very personal way.

That's my goal, to try and find a cure somewhere. I may not make it, but it won't be because I didn't try.

In 2005, Arlene lost a 7-year, often agonizing battle with cancer, leaving her husband of 48 years alone, devastated, and angry.
Already established with the Budge Brown Family Winery, Brown purchased the Cleavage Creek label and began producing fine wines with the intent of raising awareness about breast cancer.
"When people learn about Cleavage Creek and the motivation behind it, well, if it reminds one person to go for a checkup, do a self-examination, or become more informed, we're accomplishing my goal of saving lives.
The cure for breast cancer may not come in my lifetime, but the mere existence of Cleavage Creek could bring it along sooner rather than later. Job done."

Sipping For the Cure Wine Glass
Handmade by Indy Art Chick
An acquaintance of the artist, a breast cancer survivor, suggested this design. As she pointed out, laughter is ALWAYS good medicine. It's a one-of-a kind gift, hand painted with cheerful polka dots, and beautifully packaged. The glass holds 18.5 ounces and is top shelf dishwasher safe. Cheers to sipping for the cure!

The Cleavage Creek Cellars owner took off from Minden Tahoe airport in Nevada and was on his way to Tracy, California to pick up a friend. The men had planned to go fishing. It was a route Budge Brown had flown hundreds of times. The experienced pilot had logged thousands of hours in the air.
After his wife Arlene's death, Budge Brown pledged to donate 10 percent of Cleavage Creek's wine sales to the fight against breast cancer. At the time of his death at age 78, he had donated more than $90,000 to breast cancer research and support.
Without its captain at the helm, Cleavage Creek Winery and the tasting room closed on July 5, 2011. The Brown Foundation will continue to support breast cancer research.
