Les Chenes Estate Vineyards in Livermore is Closed

Les Chenes Estate Vineyards
Les Chenes Estate Vineyards was a family-owned boutique winery in Livermore Valley, specializing in Rhône-style wines from estate-grown grapes, including Syrah, Roussanne, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and blends like the Deux Rouges (Cabernet Sauvignon-Syrah). Plum, cherry, pepper, and spice notes were balanced by French oak. The tasting room offered relaxed weekends with creative cheese pairings, homemade mustards and chutneys, picnic areas, and vineyard views. Known for its intimate setting and engaging hosts, Les Chenes earned "Best New Winery of the East Bay" in 2007 from Diablo Magazine and over 140 medals in competitions.

Les Chenes Estate Vineyards History
Richard and Candice Dixon, leveraging prior winemaking in California's Central Valley and Russian River Valley, planted vines in 1999 on their Livermore property at 5562 Victoria Lane, in the region's historic east end amid gravelly soils dating to 1840s viticulture. The tasting room opened in April 2007, quickly becoming a community favorite for its Rhône focus and personal hospitality, including the winery dog Rhone (a rescued Border Collie featured in local calendars). Active through the 2010s with events and acclaim, it participated in Livermore's wine scene milestones like the 2014 Uncorked! Competition. The winery closed around 2020, with a heartfelt website message from the Dixons: "Les Chenes Estate Vineyards is moving on. We have closed our winery and tasting room. We are looking forward to our future projects," leaving a legacy of approachable excellence in Livermore's collaborative heritage.

Rhone, the beloved winery dog at Les Chenes, was more than just a furry mascot—he was a rescued black Border Collie mix whose intelligence and charm made him a standout in Livermore's wine scene. As the official greeter, Rhone embodied Les Chenes' welcoming vibe, often lounging patio-side where leashed pups (and their humans) could picnic.
