Embodied Wines was a boutique, family-owned winery and vibrant tasting room located in the urban wine district of Livermore. Winemaker Kimmie Orani-Spears and her husband Stephen Spears offered a relaxed alternative to larger, more traditional estates, and built a following through their Instagram presence and community engagement.
Kimmie was known for her hands-on style, including the use of trained falcons in the vineyards for natural pest control—a unique detail frequently mentioned by visitors. The winery emphasized turning high-quality fruit into carefully crafted wines, with a focus on Livermore Valley grapes.
One of the most popular photo ops at Embodied Wines was the large painted falcon wings mural on a wall near the tasting bar. Kimmie painted it herself, and visitors loved standing in front of the oversized wings for Instagram-worthy photos, with arms outstretched as if they were soaring like a bird of prey. It was frequently highlighted as one of the most Instagrammable spots in the Livermore Valley, with guests calling it the "perfect spot to get your wings."
Kimmie is a state-licensed falconer, and her trained falcons and other raptors (including a Lanner Falcon named Bartleby, red-tailed hawks, a Harris’s hawk, and more) were sometimes present right in the tasting room. Visitors often described seeing “birds of prey just chillin’” during tastings — a truly unique and cool experience.
These elements—especially the falcon connection and the interactive wings mural—gave Embodied Wines a playful, memorable personality that blended winemaking with a love for birds of prey. Many visitors said the combination of good wines, friendly owners, and these quirky touches made it feel unlike any other stop in Livermore.
As part of Livermore Valley’s Painted Barrel Trail, Embodied Wines featured artist-decorated barrels with a strong bird-of-prey theme. The artwork depicted many of Kimmie’s own birds (hawks, falcons, owls), tying into the winery’s falconry passion. One barrel was even painted by a fellow licensed falconer who assisted Kimmie.
