Known for its rustic, family-friendly vibe with picnic-friendly grounds, live music, and events, Deer Ridge offered casual tastings in a scenic, hilltop setting, appealing to locals seeking approachable, food-pairing wines in a laid-back atmosphere.
Deer Ridge Vineyards History
Deer Ridge Vineyards was established in the early 2000s on Wetmore Road in south Livermore, one of California's oldest wine regions dating back to the 1840s. About ten years later, the property was expanded to 50 acres and transformed into a hospitality hub for weddings and wine tasting events. The winery closed around 2019 and the site was repurposed as Las Positas Vineyards (owned by the same family), with the former Deer Ridge name retained for large special events like weddings.
Charles Wetmore founded Cresta Blanca Winery in 1882 using elite Sauvignon Blanc cuttings from France's Château d'Yquem. In 1889, his 1884 vintage—a dry white wine—won the Grand Prize at the Paris Exposition, marking the first international accolade for a California wine and revitalizing the state's struggling industry.
